Shelby Treichler makes items out of retired rope
The owner of Cactus to Pine Goods, Shelby uses retired climbing rope to create coozies, trays, bowls, & more.
Hello & happy Tuesday,
Today’s interview is with Shelby Treichler, the owner of a small business called Cactus to Pine Goods. Shelby creates items such as coozies and bowls from retired climbing rope, giving it a new life!
She runs her business out of a camper currently parked in Salt Lake City, Utah, and takes advantage of the mobility that her camper offers to attend craft fairs and pick up retired rope from climbers and climbing gyms across the U.S.

The Business of Fashion Sustainability Index 2022 was released a few weeks ago.
Downloading a PDF of the 128-page report costs £2,495. I will not be doing this, and I’m assuming you won’t be either, so here are some sparknotes sourced from people who *did* read the report:
The report studied 15 of the largest fashion brands.
The average score out of 100 possible points was 36.
Puma scored the highest (49 points), followed by Kering and Levi Strauss.
The assessment examined the following categories: Emissions, Transparency, Water & Chemicals, Materials, Workers’ Rights and Waste.
The takeaway: “Efforts to transform the fashion industry in line with global ambitions to curb climate change and establish more responsible business practices by 2030 have yet to gain sufficient momentum, The BoF Sustainability Index 2022 finds.”
